This year's Blue Peter appeal is working with Mencap to enable more disabled children to go to the same clubs and do the same activities as non-disabled children. The money raised will be used to find, train and support volunteers who can help children with a learning disability to take part in social and leisure clubs, like Brownies, Cubs and sports clubs. So far the appeal has raised over £700,000 and there is still time to raise more. Click here for more info and to get an information pack. http://www.mencap.org.uk |
I have discovered an excellent website set up by the Family Fund Trust called 'After 16 - What's New?' They have also produced a booklet by the same name. It is aimed at teenagers and young people in the UK who have an impairment or disability and are wondering what opportunities and services there should be when they leave school. Parents, carers and professional workers will probably find it very useful also. The website can be found at www.after16.org.uk and is well worth a visit. A free copy of the booklet is available from Family Fund Trust by calling 01904 621115 |
