Care Charities and Information
Back to Domiciliary & Respite Care
This page provides information about where to go for further information about children's respite care, as well as listing charities who offer grants or provide free chdilren's respite or domiciliary care.
Some of the children's respite care homes listed on this page may charge for care, although they are all not for profit or charitable organisations.
PLEASE NOTE: Special Needs Kids does not directly endorse any of the organisations listed, although we make every effort to ensure the information is up to date and relevant. Please contact the organisations directly to make enquiries.
Parents often contact us asking about respite care regulations and the differences between private and charitable care, so we've put together some key facts to help you.
1. In England care services are monitored by the 'Care Quality Commission' who are an independant regulator of health and social care in England. Visit their website by Clicking Here.
On their website they have an excellent search facility that allows you to type in names of care companies and charities to view their previous care quality rating (These ratings are no longer used, although previous years reports are still documented on the site)
For up to date care standards information, go to the Care Standards Legislation 2011
2. Care services are monitored by a different organisation in Scotland. The Scottish commission for the regulation of care was set up in 2002 under the Regulation of Care Act 2001 to regulate all adult, child and independent healthcare services in Scotland. On 1 April 2011 the work of the Care Commission passed to a new body, the Care Inspectorate. Regulation of independent healthcare has passed to Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
You can visit the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website for more information about regulations and care standards in Scotland CLICK HERE. Their purpose is to support healthcare providers in Scotland to deliver high quality, evidence-based, safe, effective and person-centred care; and to scrutinise those services to provide public assurance about the quality and safety of that care.
